César on Piedmont Avenue
From Spain to Latin America


César is following the course of history by exploring beyond the borders of Spain and the Mediterranean to the new worlds of Latin America.

Executive Chef Maggie Pond has created a wonderful new Latin American menu for César on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland that celebrates the amazing cuisine from various regions in South and Central America. It is often said that while some things change others remain the same. To that point, César in Berkeley will continue to provide some of the best authentic Spanish food outside of Spain, as we have since opening twelve years ago.

Chef Maggie's enthusiasm for "food of the Americas" is rooted in her training and experience in Spanish cuisine, along with her extensive travel and research in the regions of Latin America where this food evolved. César on Piedmont's new direction will feature exceptional versions of familiar Latin dishes and a regularly changing accompaniment of innovative, distinctive and authentic regional specialties. Included among these will be pozole from Mexico, tamales from Colombia, sopapillas from Chile and bistec from Argentina. In the traditional manner, these dishes will be available individually or shared family style. There will also be served kid friendly selections for the younger members of our clientele.

César will continue to be a place you can count on for an exceptional selection of wines and expert mixology. While César in Berkeley will continue serving our Spanish influenced offerings, César on Piedmont will develop a wine and spirits selections to complement its Latino inspired cuisine.  Celebrating our collection of Tequila, Rum and Mescal, we will present masterful versions of the classics, including Margaritas, Caipirinhas, Mojitos, and Sangrias. Our festive versions of these classic cocktails will be fashioned using exceptional ingredients, including house made syrups, fresh juices and aguas frescas. At the same time, our wine and spirits aficionado, Dennis Lapuyade, will introduce you to New World and Old World wines tailored specifically to the Latino menu. His always informative, and at times amusing, wine notes and wine-tasting events will inform and educate your mind and your palate.

As part of our on-going effort to embrace "green practices" in every aspect of our operation, César will work with our Latin food and beverage vendors to source organic and sustainable ingredients whenever possible.

César Latino will launch on Valentine's Day weekend, February 12th, 13th & 14th. The entire César family is thrilled to invite all of you, as important and valued members of our community, to join us in celebrating this exciting voyage from Spain to the New World of Latin American cuisine.
